 Time for Crossrail
picture of the portal where trains from Europe exit from the tunnel under North London

The Government must get on with getting Crossrail built now that Parliament has finally passed the bill to enable it. Crossrail will make a massive difference to cross-London journey times for Islington residents with the planned stop at Farringdon."

Crossrail will provide a high-speed link between east and west London through a new cross-London rail tunnel. The link will ensure that passengers do not have to have the inconvenience and extra time required problems of changing on to the tube to get across town to mainline railway termini in west or east London.

After all the delays caused by the uncertainty of funding Crossrail I believe we must have some real political leadership, and get this vital rail link through the heart of the capital built as soon as possible. Crossrail will relieve pressure on a hugely overcrowded underground network.

Middle-aged Londoners can remember this project being talked about when they were kids. They shouldn't have to wait until they're pensioners before it is a reality. Successive governments, Labour and Tory alike, have delayed this vital project. It's time to stop dithering and start digging.

Bridget Fox is a leading campaigner for better public transport in Islington. As Vice-Chair of ALG's Transport & Environment Committee, she meets Ministers and Transport for London, to raise the case for investment in London's transport network. Bridget says "I won't stop fighting for better public transport for Islington."
