22 May 2007 - Essex Road Post Office Update
In January, Labour MPs including Emily Thornberry voted in favour of the Post Office closure programme.
Last Thursday, the Government announced that up to 2,500 sub post offices are to close. On Friday, Lib Dem MPs exposed further plans which put Crown offices across London, including Essex Road Post Office here in Islington, at risk.
These changes are a direct result of Labour Government policy, backed by Labour MPs, yet Labour are trying to blame their Lib Dem rivals on Islington Council instead.
Why stop there? Soon Labour will blame the Council for wet weather in May, for the Italian baggage handlers strike and for the UK's Eurovision result. Anything's better than owning up to the fact that their Government has got it wrong. No wonder people get cynical about politics!
Meanwhile Liberal Democrats will continue to support local residents and fight to save Essex Road Post Office. On Monday Jo Swinson MP supported me as we launched our petition demanding the Post Office keep Essex Road open. If you would like to sign the petition, you can contact me campaign@bridgetfox.org.uk
