Monday 28 February 2005 1:10 am The Government has set out its principles for pensions, but Labour's abstract principles won't keep pensioners warm, restore their dignity or give women a reward for a lifetime's unpaid work. As Liberal Democrats, we have already set out detailed pensions proposals, including boosting the basic state pension by £25 a week and restoring the pensions-earnings link for over-75s, the war-time generation. As part of our pensioners' package, we also support:
funding personal care for the elderly
abolishing the unfair council tax
promoting benefits takeup among older people
extending the Freedom Pass beyond London What we need are real reforms now. After 7 years in office, Labour must offer pensioners concrete proposals not muddle and fudge.
