I'm delighted to endorse Meral Ece as the Liberal Democrats' London Assembly candidate for London North East, the seat that covers Islington (along with Hackney and Waltham Forest). This week we launched Meral's campaign with support from Ed Davey MP and Sarah Ludford MEP.

Meral has been a community activist for nearly 20 years, and a councillor since 1994, serving communities in both Hackney and Islington. Born in London, the daughter of Turkish - Cypriot immigrants. Meral has always lived in Islington and Hackney. Mother of 3 children, Meral knows the challenges faced by parents, having brought up her family in inner-city London. As the national Chair of Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats, Meral is known for supporting local party campaigns to engage with diverse communities. Most of all, she is a determined and courageous campaigner who puts serving the community first.
