Crime and policing: a London safe for all

On walkabout with the Met Police. Making the police more accessible and accountable is a key priority.

Every Londoner should feel safe on our streets.

Bridget’s priorities:

  • continue to defend our civil liberties, keeping the police accountable
  • use of new technology to keep the public informed
  • keep bobbies on the beat, not form-filling in the police station

For two years, Bridget was the Executive member on Community Safety in Islington. Under her leadership, the borough pioneered Acceptable Behaviour Contracts as an alternative to ASBOs and introduced a code of conduct for use of CCTV.

Too many Londoners have been victims of crime. Bridget has worked with Victim Support, local MAGPI groups, residents associations and youth charities to combat crime, particularly violent crime. She is a trustee of a local community partnership that provides positive activities for young people.

Bridget’s priority is to increase the accessibility and accountability of the police. Bridget wants to see better use of new technology to cut waste, maximise police time on the beat, and inform & reassure the public.

Feeling safe is about more than fighting crime.  It is about being free to enjoy life in London.  Bridget is an active supporter of Amnesty International and the NO2ID campaign, and a Friend of the Refugee Council. She has championed civil liberties, spoken up for refugee rights, promoted inter-faith dialogue, and celebrated London Pride.
