Environment: Making London a truly sustainable city

Bridget is a respected environmental campaigner who will work across London to champion green initiatives.

London has huge potential to be a more sustainable city.

Bridget’s priorities:

  • green and brown roofs to support biodiversity in built-up areas;
  • defending London’s precious green spaces.

Making London a truly sustainable city is essential for our future. Climate change remains the biggest challenge we face. Bridget has the right policy expertise to hold the Mayor to account.

Bridget is an active supporter of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, a founder member of the 10:10 campaign, and a member of the London Wildlife Trust. She is a respected campaigner on environmental issues, from fuel poverty to air quality. In 2006, she won a National Transport Award for her campaigning on sustainable transport.

As Cabinet Member for Sustainability in Islington, Bridget introduced new green planning rules, extended parks, converted streetlights to renewable energy, and helped make the borough one of the greenest in London. She was a founder board member of Groundwork Camden & Islington.

She led new recycling and waste reduction initiatives in Islington, and as LibDem Group leader on the North London Waste Authority, worked to improve recycling across Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.

As Lib Dem Leader on the ALG Transport & Environment Committee, Bridget worked with councillors from all boroughs, taking action on air and river pollution across London.
