I am campaigning to improve health and access to health care in Islington.
My health care manifesto:
Reduce red tape in NHS
Restore free eye and dental checks
Protect community pharmacies
Paramedic support on all emergency ambulances - no more tragedies like Kayleigh Christie
Oppose the NICE limitations on Alzheimers drugs and other essential treatment: the NHS is supposed to make health care available to all in need, not just the rich.
Free personal care
We all want to see high quality health care. But the Government's target culture is overloading hospitals, GPs and community health workers with red tape. Liberal Democrats want to put patients first and free doctors and nurses from Whitehall meddling. We believe health services should be free at the point of use, including free personal care when you need it - no one should be forced to sell their home to pay for care. Liberal Democrats have achieved this in Scotland. Islington residents deserve no less.
My health promotion manifesto:
Better clearer food labelling
Extend smoke-free environments in Islington
Better support for people with mental health problems and their families
Health is about more than health care - we need to tackle the causes of ill health too. People aren't stupid - they don't need lecturing about health. What we want from government is better information, healthier environments and action against poverty.
My Invest for Health manifesto:
Dedicate our National Insurance payments to properly fund the NHS
Protect our local health services from cuts forced to bail out other parts of the NHS
Oppose cuts to frontline care at Barts from PFI overspends
Despite its wealthy image, Islington and Finsbury are home to some of the poorest communities in London. Poverty is a major cause of ill health. I will fight for the needs of all Islington residents. It's shameful that in a rich country, in the 21st century, so many people are still living in poverty.
Bridget Fox has the right experience to fight for better health for Islington. Previously a Community Health Council member, Bridget served on Islington's Health Partnership Board, chairing a working group that promotes healthy eating and an active lifestyle. Bridget and her family rely on the NHS for their health care.
